This is an ongoing project about fascinating religious practice right in the black heart of Brazil, state of Bahia. Candomblé is a syncretic religion which has developed amongst the black slaves brought to Brazil from Western Africa. The religion is a mixture of traditional Yoruba, Fon and Bantu beliefs which originated from different regions in Africa, and it has also incorporated some aspects of the Catholic faith. The practice is rooted in the religious practice of invocating their Gods, Orixás, dancing in the circle, singing ancestral chants and praying that provokes mysterious states of trance.
